Frequently Asked Questions
What is Reflexology?
Reflexology is a healing art that is thousands of years old, and can be found in some form in most cultures, including ancient Egypt, China, and India.
There are over 7000 nerve endings on each foot. These have been bundled into what we call reflexes. From there those reflexes have been mapped out to correspond with the body and body systems. As those points are worked on strategically in the feet, the referred points in the body are also being stimulated..
Why does it work ?
Being upright takes constant micro re-adjustments, so the feet are always working.
They literally bear the weight of a person daily, often for hours at a time. Generally people add in deliberate activity, work, recreation, ill-fitting or unsupportive footwear, and life in general to the regular workload.
Feet get tired and sore. Reflexology uses a variety of techniques to work out the muscles, joints, bones and connective tissue.
Think a thorough, deep, foot rub.
In addition, most are familiar with the "fight or flight"reaction. The sympathetic nervous system has a physiological response to danger or a threat, like increased heart rate, respiration, adrenaline secretion, and so on.
Many are not as familiar with the opposite, yet just as powerful "repair and restore" mode of the parasympathetic nervous system. This is where the heart slows and breathing calms. The body sends blood to organs, digests food, recalibrates hormones, and repairs muscles. In this state of relaxation, healing occurs.
It repairs, restores, and works towards the desired state of wellness in body and mind.
